Alamo Village is Texas' first permanent outdoor movie location and was built for John Wayne's epic "The Alamo." It sits in the middle of the18,000 acre Shahan HV Ranch seven miles north of Brackettville on Hwy 674. The set -- largest and most complete in the U.S. -- boasts a full-scale period town and the only replica of the 1836 Alamo mission in the world.
The Alamo and town were constructed with a dedication to authenticity. Our versatile sets -- all full-scale buildings; no false fronts -- include nearly three dozen board-and-batten and adobe buildings such as jails, saloons, general store, bank, hotel, church, stable, blacksmith shop in addition to the Alamo mission-fortress.
Through the years, we have served as forts, haciendas, modern European villages, frontier towns and Mexican villages. We have a tremendous selection of wagons, surreys, buckboards, stagecoaches and buggies, and our prop rooms are filled with everything from whiskey barrels to a 1920's barber chair.
A prize herd of registered Texas Longhorns roam the ranch along with quarter horses, goats, and sheep. We have good, gentle movie horses, and the cattle are camera- and people-savvy. Our 18,000 Acres are diversified, with rugged hills, creeks, canyons and a variety of other terrain.
The roads on the ranch can handle any size crew vehicle and are easy to travel. If we don't have the look you're after, there are ranches and farms in our area that probably do -- including the ranch where the town of Lonesome Dove was filmed.
Our area also has experienced electricians, carpenters, scenics, extras, bit players, wranglers, PA's and many other solutions to your crew needs.
Brackettville is located on US Highway 90, 120 miles due west of San Antonio. Fort Clark Springs in Brackettville has 39 motel rooms as well as condos, townhouses, and apartments and a 5,000 foot turf air strip where small planes can land. San Antonio is serviced by all major airlines.
Del Rio is a short 30 miles west of Alamo Village with Uvalde only 40 miles east. These movie friendly towns have the best in accommodations. Each town also has its own airport.
As for shooting weather, it is as good as anywhere in the UnitedStates. We average 16-17 inches of rain a year.
While we were originally built as an 1836 town, our set is versatile enough to serve as modern day Mexico in the soon to be released feature film, "The Bullfighter."
